Chaining Hamlin Valley & Riding Good Water Rim
Chaining, originally called cabling, has existed as long as tractors have existed. Documentation for chaining can be found as early as 1945. The BLM or Bureau of Land Management as well as the state of Utah use this technique to alter the landscape… they call it “treatment”. We say “treatment” in quotations because even though that is what the BLM calls it, it’s like treating a cold with chemo. We need more studies but so far the science is backing the position that mechanic treatments of wilderness areas does more harm than good. AND There’s a trail in Emery County that follows the rim of the Little Grand Canyon called the Good Water Rim Trail. While runners and hikers will definitely enjoy this scenic path, it’s the mountain biking that’s off the charts.
