We explore Eardley Canyon in Emery County, considered part of the “eastern reef” of the San Rafael Swell. This trail is on federal BLM land, or Bureau of Land Management, which means it’s owned by every US citizen. We will be hiking into Eardley from Straight Wash, which is a great hike even if you do not plan on doing the full loop which requires rappelling and… swimming. AND In Emery County, Utah, in a place called Molen Reef, there are a trove of artifacts, dwellings and rock art that have stood the test of time. Much of it created over a thousand years ago, these treasures may not be around much longer. That’s because recently, the Bureau of Land Management, or “BLM” decided to lease the land in this area for oil and gas development.
